Can you imagine playing golf without some golf sunscreen? Well, we don’t recommend it.

Nowadays, sun protection has become much more important. Many people suffer from sunburns or even get skin conditions because they didn’t apply enough sunscreen before going outside.

Sunscreens come in various forms, such as creams, sprays, gels, and lotions. They provide broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.

Not only do you need a sunscreen that protects your skin, but you also need one that is sweat-resistant, waterproof, and lasts all day. With thousands of different sunscreens on the market, we chose the five best sunscreens to use on your next round!

We looked at several factors when selecting sunscreens. We wanted to choose ones that were safe for people with sensitive skin as well as those with fairer complexions (since they are the most sensitive to the sun). We also needed to find products that had broad-spectrum protection, meaning that they protected against both UVA and UVB rays. Finally, we needed products that provided high SPF ratings so they would provide adequate coverage during peak hours of sunlight.

WHAT WE THINK:

This sunscreen is widely regarded as one of the best alternatives available on the market for golfers with light skin or who are prone to sunburn. Aside from the fact that it comes from a well-known and dependable brand, it is also one of the most highly recommended skincare products by dermatologists. It can protect the skin to the greatest extent possible since it does not absorb UV radiation.

When it comes to the application, it is excellent since it is designed to absorb really quickly. This helps to avoid streaks and allows you to apply it more swiftly, allowing you to head to the golf course as fast as possible.

The biggest disadvantage of this sunscreen is that it comes in a tiny bottle, which means that you receive less product per container when compared to the majority of other sunscreen alternatives available on the market. But, quality over quantity wins here.

WHAT CUSTOMERS THINK:

"If you're looking for something light to layer over your normal moisturizer, this is a great option. It seems white when first opened, however, it applies sheer and gives your skin a more radiant appearance after a few applications. Despite being out and about in the scorching weather this weekend, I stayed cool and comfortable in this outfit. Knowing that I wouldn't get sunburnt even if the temps were in the 90s all weekend was a huge relief. So I used this on my face and arms, and it had no negative effect on my skin. There are no breakouts and no greasy residue. All that is needed is comfortable, clean, and total coverage. I'm overjoyed. This is something I'll purchase again."

PROS

✅ The best thing about this lotion is that it doesn't leave a greasy residue on the skin. It's really lightweight.

✅ Travel-friendly and convenient.

✅ Because of its waterproof, sweat-proof, and anti-rub-off properties, you won't have to reapply as often.

✅ Sunscreen with an SPF of at least 100!

✅ Can be used on both the face and the body.

✅ Doesn't leave you looking like a ghost

✅ Affordable and accessible, the product is a good value.

CONS

❌ Comes in a small bottle

WHAT WE THINK:

We know that reapplying sunscreen is the most difficult behavior to establish as a habit. Because of this, we recommend that you use a sunscreen stick for reapplication purposes.

In addition to sunscreens and other skincare products, EltaMD also provides products that are enhanced with natural ingredients and devoid of dangerous chemical components.

A golfer's skin will benefit from EltaMD UV Stick SPF 50+++, which gives broad-spectrum protection from both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B rays. They will quickly become a must-have after the first application and the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends this product as an excellent broad-spectrum sunscreen.

This UV stick is less messy, more convenient to apply and transport, and most importantly will not interfere with your golf grip!

Using this on the golf course is a great way to reapply sunscreen to the face, neck, ears, and arms, and avoid the greasy feeling that normal sunscreen may produce.

WHAT CUSTOMERS THINK:

"EltaMD mineral sunscreen is a staple in my daily skincare regimen since it's so sunny where I reside in Southern California. The EltaMD mineral sunscreen stick is small and convenient, so I always have it with me while I'm out and about. As the weather has suddenly become hot and humid, I've been applying this often on the backs of my hands, which are always exposed while I'm out and about, even when I'm driving. Sun damage on my hands is significantly more noticeable than on my face because of my lack of regular sunscreen use when I was younger.

This stick makes everything so much easier. When applying it to tiny places, I don't find the need to spread or massage it in. It's spreadable, but not as much as a lotion. My light skin doesn't pick up on the scent, and it's easy to apply just by swiping it on. This is great since I can use it on the backs of my hands and not have to worry about it getting all over my car while I'm driving. My hands have benefited much from this product, but I've also used it to the exposed areas of my face, neck, and arms after I've been out in the heat for longer than anticipated (today was approximately 90F). It's quick and simple to use, and it offers great security.

This does not bother my delicate skin, and it does not leave a white cast on my face. Though it's possible to do so in a hurry, this isn't an option for my whole body (not that I expected it to be). For those who don't like the feel of sunscreen lotion on their skin, this mineral sunscreen provides 50 SPF of protection. During the hottest months of the year, my son's face was particularly irritated by the sunscreen lotion. When he was younger, this would have been an excellent choice since it's non-greasy. For the face and back of the neck, he still prefers to use this stick instead of lotion. It is highly recommended that you do so. Love it! 5 stars out of 5."

PROS

✅ Lightweight and easy to carry around

✅ Free of harmful chemicals

✅ Great for sensitive skin

✅ Won't cause breakouts

✅ 80 Minutes water resistant which means no need to reapply as often

CONS

❌ Might have to repurchase sooner since it's small

3. BEST SUNSCREEN FOR FACE: EltaMD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen

SPECIFICATIONS

???? Perfect for sensitive skin types - Acneprone, Hyperpigmentation, Rosacea.

???? UVA/UVB sun protection

???? Calms and protects acne-prone skin

???? Leaves no residue

???? It contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), hyaluronic acid, and lactic acid, ingredients that promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin. Very lightweight and silky.

WHAT WE THINK:

Silky-smooth and gentle, this SPF applies and absorbs in like a face moisturizer: swiftly and with no sticky mess.

Thanks to the airless pump, dispensing it is straightforward and easy also. The solution comes out white and absorbs to clear rather quickly.

The bottle is 1.7-ounces, which appeared little at first. However, because this product is just applied to the face, we found that size didn’t wind up being a problem and that a little of the product went a long way.

Many sunscreens might leave you with a white cast, which can be terrible to massage in entirely. Luckily, that’s not the case with this one. Just like a good moisturizer, you forget it’s there and it doesn’t leave any evidence behind.

A key area of concern with any sunscreen is fragrance. The manufacturer indicates on the product website that this sunscreen is fragrance-free, yet there is a subtle aroma. we didn’t find the aroma unpleasant or overpowering.

Comparing this SPF with similar products indicates that this is indeed a reasonable price for the product. You can buy a good face sunscreen at a lesser cost (some are even under $15), but if you’re acne-prone or have sensitive skin, you may benefit from the additional added components and discover that this choice is worth the investment.

WHAT CUSTOMERS THINK:

"For years, La Roche Posay Anthelios was my holy grail, but I needed something different in my sunscreen, so I switched to ELTA 46 SPF. ELTA sunscreen has some of the greatest ingredients available. In any skincare product, for that matter:) If you're searching for a decent sunscreen with added advantages, this is the one to choose. The covering and protection are two of the nicest features. Most sunscreens in Europe/Asia have high rates for both UVA and UVB, but in the United States, the main standard is SPF for UVB (rays causing burning, primarily), but not so much for UVA (UVA rays account for up to 95 percent of UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface, and penetrates more deeply in the skin, being more associated with the aging process). ELTA is one of those unusual (in a good way) products that provides great protection for both, does not leave a white cast, and has amazing ingredients: Niacinamide is a key component in the formulation (5 percent, the same as the pricey NIA-24), and it's an all-time favorite (antioxidant, brightens skin tone, cures hyperpigmentation, promotes collagen, anti-inflammatory, and so on), along with vitamin E and hyaluronic acid. Seriously, this lotion is a game-changer, and it's quite reasonable for the quality of the product!"

PROS

✅ It feels light on the skin

✅ Not oily or tacky at all

✅ Easily absorbed.

✅  No traces of film or residue.

✅ It may be layered with other serums or creams.

✅ Approved by the Skin Cancer Foundation.

CONS

❌ Doesn't come in bigger bottles

4. BEST ALL-IN-ONE FOR SENSITIVE SKIN: La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen

SPECIFICATIONS

???? Octinoxate- & Oxybenzone-free sunscreen provides broad-spectrum SPF 60 protection

???? Face and body sunscreen in a non-greasy, fast-absorbing texture leaves skin hydrated and smooth with a velvety texture

????A powerful antioxidant complex to help protect skin from free radicals caused by UV rays

Water-resistant (80 minutes)

????Formulated and rigorously tested for skin tolerance, even on sensitive skin

WHAT WE THINK:

Raise your hand if you're guilty of failing to use sunscreen every day.

If you're a golfer or someone who spends a lot of time outdoors, you should both pay attention. Not only does sunscreen protect against skin cancer, but it also prevents premature aging, pigmentation, dullness, and texture issues.

In keeping with its name, La Roche-Melt-in Posay's Sunscreen Milk truly melts into the skin. This matte-finish sunscreen is very easy to wear and doesn't clog pores. The silky, non-greasy texture absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn't leave behind any gummy or goopy residue.

In addition to broad-spectrum protection, this sunscreen goes the extra mile. The sunscreen includes potent antioxidants (vitamin E and Cassia alata leaf) that defend the skin from dangerous UVA and UVB rays, as well as UV ray-caused free radicals.

The fact that it's water-resistant and hypoallergenic makes it our go-to sunscreen no matter the weather.

You can't go wrong with La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk SPF 60. It has an SPF of 60 and is non-comedogenic and oil-free.

In addition, this sunscreen is so light that it may be worn on both the face and the body.  And there are no longer excuses for skipping sunscreen.

WHAT CUSTOMERS THINK:

“A motorcycle instructor who works in the sun all day was RAVING about this sunscreen, so I bought it. I'm a ginger and I got sunburnt today because I thought I could go out in the garden for 10 minutes without sunscreen... I should have put on my La Roche-Posay! This stuff is better than Neutrogena (better be, for that price) and goes on thick at first, feeling a bit more like the Neutrogena 100SPF even though this is rated at 60SPF. Then it "melts in" and is quite comfortable and I forget I'm wearing it. I use it on my face, too! It feels more like wearing a bit of lotion/moisturizing cream. It also works REALLY well.

MOST IMPORTANTLY it does NOT smell like sunscreen. It has a "plastic" smell to it which is a little odd at first, but that smell pretty much vanishes after 15-20 minutes. It's not like other sunscreens where I am aware I have sunscreen on ALL DAY and I can't wait to take a shower.

So, my sunscreen collection looks like this:

Neutrogena spray cans + sunscreen lotions for when I'm not feeling fancy enough for a $30 sunscreen, but want something I trust.

Trader Joe's 6.99 spray sunscreen. It's oily, but it WORKS and is CHEAP.

La Roche-Posay: for going on sun-filled dates or BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY I DESERVE IT.

(Banana Boat has betrayed me and forever belongs in the trash.)"

PROS

✅ Provides broad-spectrum sun protection and includes stabilized avobenzone for critical UVA screening.

✅ Sheer fluid feels light and applies easily.

✅Fragrance-free.

✅ Great for sensitive skin

CONS

❌Formula may feel a bit heavy for some.

SPECIFICATIONS

???? This hydrating, acai-flavored lip balm with SPF absorbs both UVA & UVB rays so your skin doesn’t

???? Don’t use sunscreen for lips. This lightweight SPF 30 lip balm protects one of the most sun-sensitive parts of your body.

????The water & the sweat-resistant formula is especially recommended for a day at the golf course or on the slopes.

????Acai PLAY Lip Balm is oxybenzone- & octinoxate-free. It includes shea butter & antioxidant-rich honey & sunflower seed oils to keep your lips soft & moisturized.

???? Apply this daily use lip balm generously to lips, 15 minutes before sun exposure, to hydrate & protect them.

WHAT WE THINK:

Supergoop! is a skincare company that is well-known for manufacturing high-quality products that provide sun protection. The Acaifusion Lip Balm with SPF 30 is one of the company's most popular products, owing to its key component, shea butter, which helps to seal in moisture while also acting as a protective barrier against the sun and environmental harm, among other benefits.

An ingredient in this ultra-hydrating lip balm is the acai super berry, which is high in antioxidants and may help to protect skin cells from harm. The recipe also includes an organic SPF, which allows the cream to absorb into the skin more effectively than a mineral SPF, which sits on top of the skin like a film.

WHAT CUSTOMERS THINK:

"I needed a super-hydrating lip conditioner after a new face lotion dried my lips out. None of my many typical lip conditioners were cutting it. At the same time, I was headed for an extended trip where I’d be outdoors every day, so I was worried about how my lips would stay protected in the sun when the skin was already so cracked.

I have incredibly sensitive, fair skin that’s reactive towards a lot of sunscreen products, so I was worried about finding a product that would fit the bill for both while not being in the extremely pricey range. Granted, it’s more than double what I’d pay for a typical tube of lip balm, but it doesn’t stray into what I’d consider “decadent” $20+ range.

Supergoop! Play fit the bill and more…this is the new holy grail lip conditioner for when nothing else is working for me, plus the necessary sun protection. The best part? It doesn’t taste horrible like other SPF lip balms. It’s got a very slightly sweet (not sickly) açaí berry hint to it, but it’s far from overbearingly sweet like others out there. Definitely glossy, but I could add it over lip color or wear it alone. Big enough tube to last a while, but I’ll definitely be purchasing Supergoop! Play again when it runs out."

PROS

✅ The formulation is lightweight and absorbs immediately.

✅ Most items are available in "travel size," making them convenient to transport.

✅ There is little to no scent, which is great for folks who are sensitive to scents.

CONS

❌ It is a touch on the expensive side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a certain type of sunscreen that golfers use?

Utilizing a mineral-based sunscreen that physically prevents the sun’s rays from reaching your skin is the safest option for protecting golfers’ skin. The active ingredients to be on the lookout for are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

What can I do to keep my skin safe when playing golf?

A lot! It’s important to cover exposed areas like ears, nose, neck, hands, and feet with sunscreen before hitting the course. If you’re going to be outside for any length of time, it’s best to wear a hat too.
